Our Revolution Announces Endorsement of Peter Jacob for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th District
(Thursday, March 15, 2018) – Our Revolution announced on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 their endorsement of Peter Jacob for United States House of Representatives in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. Jacob, who was endorsed by the organization spun out from Senator Bernie Sanders during his 2016 campaign against long-time Republican incumbent Leonard Lance for the seat in NJ CD-7, is once again seeking the Democratic Party nomination in a primary election to be contested on June 5th.
“Social workers have a unique perspective on the challenges facing oursociety’s most vulnerable members,” said Our Revolution President, Nina Turner. “We are proud to endorse Peter Jacob because his experience serving his community has prepared him to represent the people of New Jersey in Congress. He will be a passionate advocate for our People’s Platform, legislation that creates the foundation for prioritizing the needs the people over excessive greed and lays out a vision for an economy that works for everyone.”
Jacob, who was the 2016 Democratic nominee in New Jersey’s 7th District, is advancing a People’s Platform that emphasizes a Medicare-for-All healthcare program, an end to the Citizens United ruling and the corrupt influence of big money in politics, and a living wage for all workers by increasing the minimum wage to $15 per hour.
“In 2016, we built an energetic grassroots campaign that gave Leonard Lance his hardest challenge ever, to swing the 7th District from safely Republican to fully in-play,” said Jacob. “In 2018, we can grow the movement in CD-7 that our campaign has already built and defeat Leonard Lance by advancing a fearlessly progressive platform that embodies the legacy passed on to us by Presidents Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy.”
An undergraduate alumnus of Kean University in New Jersey with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Washington University in Saint Louis, Peter Jacob has been a long-time advocate for stronger communities, social and environmental justice, and an American Dream that extends prosperity to all. The son of immigrants from India, his career has included service as a community organizer, social worker, and helping operate his family’s successful small business.
